The Dwarves Empty
PostSubject: The Dwarves   The Dwarves Icon_minitimeTue Apr 21, 2009 8:50 pm

The Dwarves live in the North Eastern corner of the map. They are burrowed into the cliff face of the blast crater which surrounds the entire archipelago. They are on the only piece of land which is visibly attached to the rock face.

They have a single Keep blocking off entry to their Tunnel Network. This Keep is known as Dulgrod's Hammer. The Keep is of a large, beautiful Dwarven build, but something about it, perhaps the stone used to create the Keep, seems like a sort of whimsical design, which gives off more of a feeling of 'Elvish'. The stone that the Keep is crafted of, appears to be pure black, but shimmers a deep green when light shines on it. This stone is crafted of the same stone which crashed into the surface of the planet. This has latent magical energies, which makes the keep both extremely durable, and immune to magic.

Dulgrod is actually named after a human who once faught off an entire army single handedly to save the crippled Dwarven people. Many of the older Dwarves claim that they could have won, and that a human shouldn't meddle in Dwarven affairs. Any individual who actually knows anything about the war itself, would have agreed that the Dwarves would have been over run had Dulgrod not saved them.

The Tunnel Network, in which the Dwarves reside is an exceedingly complex system of interconnecting tunnels, which is designed to confuse any who actually manage to make it into the network. This seems no different than typical Dwarves, but due to the complexity of their tunnels, and close proximity to water, the Dwarves had to develop a few unique ways of protecting themselves from this very deadly enemy, known as water.

Before a tunnel gets approved, several factors need to be explored and checked countless times before work can be done. This causes these Dwarves to be a little slow and ponderous, because if they weren't, they could take down their entire Tunnel Network, and kill every single Dwarf living there.

After a tunnel is approved, for every 20 feet of tunnel, they inscribe a water detecting rune. This rune, as the name suggests, activates after a certain amount of water is in the air. This triggers a Wall of Stone spell, which seals off the affected area. All those inside are left to die, in order to save the rest.

Each digging team has two Dwarves who are there to oversee the progress, and make sure that the tunnel is going exactly as planned. One constantly goes over the calculations, and monitors the structure of the tunnel, as compared to the plans. The other is a mystically gifted Dwarf who has the sole purpose of detecting how much water is over their heads, and to 'speak' to the stone to understand how much pressure is building up. It is all in an effort to minimalize casualties.

One of the strangest things about the Dwarven Tunnel Network, is that there are no air vents to the surface. They also do not use lamps for light. They use a moss-like substance lining the edges, and ceiling of every tunnel. This produces oxygen, and gives off light for 5/6 of the time. The other 1/6 is the plant going through a self induced photosynthesis-like process, which provides it with nutrition, without using any sunlight.
